#iamwriting You May Ask "What Are you Doing? Where's That Next Book? Update!

Update as of February 2015 -  Today is the OFFICIAL release day for the NEW EDITION of Sultry Santorini Sunsets. Check/Done

To answer those questions, I'll have to preface my answer with, "I do have a full time editing job, and all those authors' books come first." If you figure out how to expand the twenty-four hour day let me know so I can have more time to play with my WsIP and my own scrumptious heroes. In the mean time, I'm squeezing writing time out of time I should be cleaning (Ha! Who cares?) or sleeping (I can sleep when my muse stops speaking!)

So for anyone interested, here is a list of my works in progress. I can't make any promises, except for the first one. My priority for now is: DAMN THE DARKNESS book 3 in the Hearts of Darkness series (which should be read in order but do have a completed HEA) for those of you who want romantic satisfaction.

Yes, I'm finalizing the edits and formatting for DAMN THE DARKNESS due out April 30th 2015. Sorry for the delay, but it just needed a bit more story.

While doing that, I'm working on a secret project this week and hope to have something to tell you about it in May. And there's still outlining to be done for the SciFi distopian book I started for NaNoWriMo. As ideas come to me I get right to it.

The 4th book in the Hearts of Darkness is in the planning phase. I have a few new characters to add and a few old ones whose stories need to be told. Who doesn't want to know what Ramon is? Who can't wait to see Max convince the demoness/halfling he's right for her? And OMG, don't you just want to rub yourself all over that cajun wolf, Garr? So many men, too many choices! Where to start?

Must go to work now. Hugs! ~~~Eliza

Damn the Darkness coming April 2015 . . . SPECIAL PRICING for the first two books

Hearts of Darkness, Series - Books 1-3

Defeat the Darkness, the first book, introduces you to the three main characters who all believed they lived in a world like you and me. After Kyle goes to Guatemala to volunteer after an earthquake, he discovers he's been going through life with blinders on. The real world is full of creatures walking among us--creatures with a deadly agenda for some. Once the first twist happens, the lives of Kyle and the others are impacted in unimaginable ways.
Befriended by some like themselves, their story goes on in the second and third books, but they play secondary roles to Dylan Macgregor, the vampire with a Highlander's past when he meets his own life mate in the second book, Conquer the Highland Beast. His story continues, and the original cast becomes even more relevant as supporting characters when Dylan's ward, Jackson Xenos, a vaewolf, imprints on Dylan's life-mate.

If you've read the first two books in this series, you don't have long to wait to find out what happens next. The third book, Damn the Darkness is coming in April. I like ending with a happily ever any good romance reading fan would, but when I'm writing these stories, I can't guarantee things will stay that way.

One reason I self published this particular series is because it's more like an erotic urban fantasy than a traditional paranormal romance. The books don't fit into the box defined as true romance.
Today, romance publishers don't want the couples breaking up or being killed off...understandable. Me either. But I like my stories to flow. I want the sequels to move along at an honest pace. Conflicts are real and resolving them is fun. My poor characters keep running into obstacles while they search for the answers only Niccolai Xenos can provide. But until he rises, conflict abounds and the stories continue.
Unfortunately, things turn topsy-turvy for our friends, Dylan and Caitlin, as we enter this sequel. The issues are a struggle to maneuver through as they consider ways to solve their dilemma. It may not be completely resolved in this book . . . We'll see.

Here's an EXCERPT from the opening of DAMN THE DARKNESS, Vol. #3 in the Hearts of Darkness series.

When Jackson arrived at the estate, music, along with laughter and chatter, carried outside through the open ballroom doors. There was a tantalizing scent in the air, and the party--crowded, noisy, and upbeat--sounded as if it was already in full swing.

Good. He was happy for his guardian, happier still that everyone seemed to be accepting the whole situation with Caitlin, Dylan’s new mate.

“Yo, Jackson, toss the keys. I’ll park it for you.” The young wolf valet parking tonight was the younger brother of one of his pack mates.

“Hey, Josh." He patted the kid on his shoulder and pointed a finger at the car. "Take care, real good care of it, or Dylan will have my hide...then I'll have yours.”

“Don’t you worry. This baby will be safe with me. I’ll park her far away from the rest.”

Jackson tossed the keys and added another warning, “Keep it on the grounds, okay?” He couldn’t help smiling at the kid’s enthusiasm. It wasn’t that long since he’d been the one drooling over Dylan’s cars—now he was driving them. “Not too far, understand?” Jackson cocked his hand at the kid like a gun. "I may need it sooner than you think."

“Sure." Josh sniffed, gave Jackson the once over, and with a nod, grinned. "What I understand from your the ladies will be all over you tonight, dude. You’ll be getting lucky before the first toast. Guaranteed. And probably more than once.” The kid laughed and rounded the car, jumped in, and gunned it.

Jackson chuckled and adjusted himself. The kid might be right. The ride out to the estate may have put a few creases in Jackson's pants, but they smoothed out quickly when his cock swelled behind his zipper.

That foreign, tantalizing scent in the air hit Jackson’s senses like a jack hammer. Every muscle in his body hardened, as if he needed any more stimulus. He smoothed out a few more wrinkles in his black silk shirt, brushed off his tux, and buttoned his jacket as he approached the open double doors.

Fuck, what the hell is that fragrance? The scent was enthralling, amazingly sensual...totally intoxicating.

Then he saw her, the source of the scent. His reaction grew stronger as the woman approached.

Stunning. Radiant. Her pale blonde hair, pulled back into a tight bun, looked classy, but the sexy loose curl at the base fell and teased him. All that class and one wild curl. The total effect was heart stopping.

She smiled and Jackson glanced over his shoulder. When there was no one there, satisfaction spread through him like Scotch on a cold day. The smile on her pale pink lips was for him. And when she licked those lush, pillowed lips, blood rushed to his groin. He stopped breathing to focus, allowing his gaze to travel down her body--wandering over her cleavage, lower, past her flat stomach to her hips--and slowly back up,  Hell, she was lush all over. Then their eyes met.

Perfect. He sniffed again. Not Lycan, but her teeth showed a little fang. Different—definitely vampire and a great deal of something else—but what?

What? How about the sexiest woman he’d ever seen…the first his wolf had ever responded to, and she wasn’t of the blood.

She is for me. The wolf within him roared.

On writing 2 books at the same time - rewind

This is a popular subject for those of us in the writing industry. We're always writing something. Like this for instance. A blog. A post on FB or Twitter. I'm squeezing this in today between day job and breakfast. But what I've learned is not every day allows me to be flexible  with the following solutions. Instead I have a new answer.
How many of you authors out there write more than one book at a time... and I mean at the creative point? I've edited one and created another in the past, but at the moment I'm writing two different books at once. For awhile I wrote on one until I reached an impasse and needed a diversion, then I wrote on the other until the same thing happened. At least they're both paranormal so I'm spending most of my time out in fantasy land. Not a bad place to be.

One is darker and more erotic. The other isn't erotic at all (I know you're having a hard time picturing that) but a highly romantic time travel. I find my self pulling back during the sensual scenes in one and pushing myself in the other (Can you believe it?). I've decided to divide my day into HOT and NOT in order to keep  the two separate. :-D

Does anyone else have a suggestion to keep the flow going or hold it back?
I've decided to set up an inflexible schedule with flex time. The flex time is for those issues that pop up and you have to take care of them. Tine in the morning, afternoon and evening. If no emergencies arise use it for writing.

Now I have my phone set with alarms, and one is going off now so good luck and best wishes. Let me know what you do to balance your time.

ANY WAY WEST - My character has creative block.

My heroine in ANY WAY WEST is suffering from a creative block. She's used to designing and sculpting pieces of art, all sensual in texture and form. Her ranch is falling in around her and her creative juices have dried up with her fears. Now her heart won't open up and neither will her mind. Without inspiration, she's afraid she'll never create another scupture she'll enjoy and love . . . until the opportunity shows up on her doorstep. The one man who walked away from her years before is back . . . and he's brought a friend. Two might be better inspiration than one.

Whether you're an author, songwriter, artist . . . when the wall goes up and or the door closes, keeping you from seeing the story or hearing the tune or envisioning the statue, we all feel a brief moment of panic. Now if you let that panic rule you, you can't open the door or knock down the wall. If you relax, knowing the ideas will return, there's a better chance they will, and sooner, not later.

Where do you go physically or in your head to find that inner peace to sort through the mire or create a pile of ideas to work with?

What are some of your techniques for organizing your thoughts?

What do you to to relax?

What do you do to open the door to creativity?

I read or look at pictures, and play mood music in the background. Sometimes I take a walk around my yard and note the color of the leaves, or bugs scampering across a bud. Ideas are all around us for the taking. Go grab one.

Have a great week ~~~ Eliza

The Trailer for THE LETTING

Bestselling Author, Cathrine Goldstein's

New Adult/Young Adult  - Distopian Romance

Isn’t it strange how sometimes inspiration hits us in the most unexpected places?

I had no intentions of writing The Letting. None. In fact, I was elbow deep in revisions of an entirely different romance novel when The Letting came to me.

A city girl at heart, but deciding to be a good sport, I packed up my husband and my girls to spend a month in a summer camp in the deep woods of Upstate NY.

It was an endless trip down miles-long unpaved “roads,” and when we finally arrived at camp, bleary-eyed and exhausted, I looked around at the cabins: weather-beaten, small as toddler shoe boxes, and all painted an identical dirty, mud brown. All I could think was:  This is the perfect setting for a horror movie.
Not off to the best start.

Conditions didn’t improve. I watched the campers being hustled from one activity to another, eat only at scheduled mealtimes, and play solely at allotted recreational times. All of which terrified me and my I-hate-schedules-and-routines personality.

One day, hiking through the woods, waving a can of OFF! feverishly in front of us as we went, I declared I had so many mosquito bites it was like a bloodletting. Twilight was approaching and the eeriness of the forest gave me chills and made my mind start reeling.

“What if one day blood donations become mandatory?” I wondered out loud. “That would make a cool NA/YA novel. Only it needs a great title…something like…The Letting.” I ran back to our tiny, mud-colored hut and immediately started work on The Letting.

So I ventured out on a “vacation” I never thought I would take, and wrote a book I was never planning to write. I like that. I’ve also grown to like camp…or at least appreciate it.  At the very least, I no longer think of camp as a setting for a horror movie, but rather, the perfect backdrop for a NA/YA dystopian romance.

One thing is for sure, I am eternally grateful to camp for the inspiration for The Letting, and for hosting us in subsequent years so that I could write Books 2 and 3 of The Letting series.

What if the Devil doesn’t know he’s the Devil? This is the question Veronica “Ronnie” Billings poses to Phoenix, her sworn enemy, the leader of the Peaceful Revolution, and the one she loves. Kidnapped by Phoenix’s rebels, Ronnie learns how wrong she has been. She had no idea that her patriotism was wasted on a corrupt government. Ronnie was proud to be a Leader; taking hundreds of harvested girls to the Letting facility. After all, she was saving them from future Couplings and bringing them to the safety of the New World. Or so she thought… Confused, Ronnie realizes the only way to discover the truth is to trust her heart. Together, Phoenix and Ronnie devise a plan to stop their corrupt government and preempt the dangerous rebel coup which is approaching. But when their plan goes awry, will Ronnie be strong enough to save Phoenix, her country, and herself?

#apps I'm looking for an app with reminders to scheduling my day

The Insecure Writer’s Support Group
IWSG Badge

It's the first Wednesday of the month and I'm  looking forward to visiting a few of my friends' blogs today. The purpose of a support group is to support. So perhaps those of you who stop by today could leave me a piece of advice about scheduling time to write. Anyone have an app they use to help organize the day?
